Description
This is a larger size button, measures at 19mm UNION LEAGUE CLUB. A patriotic and political organization formed in Philadelphia in 1862. The members were strong backers of Lincoln's administration, and were active supporters of the Republican Party for decades. Buttons made at this time with the words "Union" or "Union and Strength" are believed at least to have been influenced by this movement, possibly worn by the members. The buttons were made of metal and black glass.
